Lift-Off for Reach for the World - Read!

The Altrusa Literacy Committee pictured at the 8th Reach For the World-Read project at Goodwin School in Storrs in February 2011. Third graders from Sweeney School in Willimantic were paired with third graders from Goodwin School in Storrs. The students met their partner classes, listened to a storyteller, and interviewed each other as part of this semester’s project . This project is made possible by a grant from the Savings Bank of Manchester Foundation. The project will culminate in a day at UConn where the partner classes will listen to an author, receive an autographed copy of his book, eat with their partners, and tour the Library. In addition, each of the schools receives a number of books to supplement the third grade classroom libraries.

Covenant Soup Kitchen

Altrusans serving lunch at the Covenant Soup Kitchen on Saturday March 12. Pictured are Anne Rash, Chris Lamb, Bonnie Ryan, Carol Drescher, Lynn Dolan, Melissa Stone ( Mary Weinland taking picture). The menu included ham parsley noodles , broccoli, green salad, fruit salad, brownies and ice cream. Everyone had a great time!
